Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)

PHTLS is the global gold standard in prehospital trauma education and is taught in 64 countries. PHTLS is appropriate for EMTs, paramedics, nurses, physician assistants, physicians, and other prehospital providers. PHTLS is accredited by CAPCE and recognized by NREMT. Requires additional registration (no cost) on the NAEMT Website. NAEMT Website details provided after FSCJ enrollment.

Provider Course: 16-hour course for EMTs, paramedics, nurses, physician assistants, physicians and other prehospital providers.  Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a certificate of completion, a wallet card recognizing them as PHTLS providers for 4 years, and 16 hours of CAPCE credit.  This course is offered as a classroom course at the North campus.

Meet our Instructors 

Thomas McCrone-

Thomas McCrone retired from the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department July 2004 after 28+ years of service, the last eight being the Division Chief/Rescue. During his tenure, he was primarily assigned to Urban Fire Stations in addition to being assigned to both the Hazardous Materials Team and Special Operations Team. 
Thomas has been teaching since 1983, all in the EMS Programs. He has taught the First Responder, EMT and Paramedic curriculums, and he is the Lead instructor for the EMT Lab. He has been the EMS Program Director since May 2014. 
His education includes a Masters-Public Administration from UNF; BS-Criminology from FSU; AS degree in Emergency Medical Technology and AS degree Fire Science/Prevention both from FCCJ (now FSCJ). Completed numerous technical certifications and instructor certifications. Florida State Certified Paramedic since 1985.
