Students will be equipped with all of the skills and self-confidence needed to embark on a successful education.

TRiO’s Talent Search (TS) is available through Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) and is funded by the U.S. Department of Education. FSCJ is committed to serving the next generation to ensure students are meeting and exceeding the expectations needed to graduate middle school, high school and beyond. Going to college is a reachable goal for students.

TS will help students every step of the way with:

Paying for college:

  • Navigation through the entire financial aid process
  • Support in lowering education costs
  • Learn about receiving Federal Financial Aid
  • Explore various state, private and college scholarship opportunities
  • Scholarships and grants

Finding a career path:

  • Individual attention with career exploration
  • Tools to help students better understand their preferences, skills and interests
  • Academic advising with college classes and programs
  • Matching majors with a variety of career options

Plus,

  • Assistance in planning for college entrance exams
  • Increase of discipline and self-assurance

Programs by grade level:

  • 6th grade — Orientation, improving study skills, developing a middle school plan and tutoring
  • 7th grade — Time management, decision making and problem solving, tutoring and effective communication and team building
  • 8th grade — High school success workshop, goal setting, tutoring and team-building exercises
  • 9th grade — Acclimation to high school, career interest and exploration, college visits and mentors
  • 10th grade — PSAT test/SAT prep, career shadowing, mentoring, college visits and college awareness
  • 11th grade — In-depth college search and visits, mentoring, college application workshops, SAT prep/SAT, scholarships and financial aid workshops
  • 12th grade — Individual college and career counseling, mentoring, applying to colleges, applying for scholarships and financial aid, SAT prep/test
